Apple iPhone 3G Announced. Coming July 11

The new iPhone 3G will be available in 22 countries on July 11 and a total of 70 countries within the next few months. The new iPhone is a bit slimmer at the edges. Steve Jobs also announced the release of the SDK that will be available for download through iTunes on July 11. The SDK 2.0 Firmware will be Free for iPhone users, but it will cost iPod Touch users $9.95. GPS was added to the new iPhone. And of course 3G for a faster connection. AT&T remains the exclusive carrier for the iPhone 3G. Apple is no longer getting money from AT&T. The new iPhone and new firmware didn’t really add many new features. There still isn’t any video chatting, picture messaging (MMS), video recording, or voice recording which is standard in most phones. The camera is exactly the same. Although, the iPhone is now much cheaper: $199 for 8GB model and $299 for 16GB model. You must sign a 2 year agreement with AT&T and choose a voice plan of $39.99 or higher and a data pan. The 3G data plan costs $30.00, making the total cost $10 more than the cost of the old iPhone plan, $59.99 to $69.99. AT&T could choose to sell an unlocked version for a higher price. The activation of the iPhone must be done in-store at an Apple or AT&T retail store. This means Unlocking might not be possible. iTunes will not be used anymore. Jailbreaking might also not be a good a idea as everytime you need to restore it you will have to go to AT&T to restore it. It is available in black or white.

SummerBoard, Customize now work on Firmware 1.1.3

SummerBoard and Customize just about fully work on firmware 1.1.3. Most of the themes work with SummerBoard and you can change the battery and slider images and all the other stuff that you were able to do with 1.1.2. There is also a Customize fix for the iPod Touch which allows you to change the carrier image.

iJailBreakMobile Released!
iJailbreakMobile provides an easy way to upgrade and jailbreak firmware version 1.1.3 on both the iPhone and iPod Touch. This method is based on the Dev Team's method and it only takes about 25-30 minutes. You can do this all straight from your iPod Touch, NO COMPUTER IS REQUIRED. This is by far the quickest and fastest 1.1.3 jailbreak out. It is great that you can now jailbreak 1.1.3 without a computer. Cheers to AriX who developed this program! You can find out more information about iJailbreakMobile by clicking here.

1.1.3 Jailbreak is Out; 3 Methods Currently Available

The 1.1.3 jailbreak just came out. There are currently three different methods available. The first one that was released was the Nate True Jailbreak. Nate True's jailbreak was unauthorized by the Dev Team and he wasn't supposed to release it. Nate True is getting hammered for this and has got kicked off of the Dev Team. The second one is the dev Team's method, which is for Windows only and is the easiest one. Lastly, there is iPodTouchMaster's Jailbreak which does not require a computer. This method is great for people who have limited access to a computer, but it takes an hour for the jailbreak to finish, which is very, very long. To watch my Jailbreak video using Nate True's method click here. To watch my video using the Dev Team's method click here. And to watch my video using iPodTouchMaster's method with no computer click here.

Jan 23:
1.1.3 Jailbreak to be Released Tomorrow!

Multiple Exploits have been found for the 1.1.3 jailbreak! This means that they can keep one method secret for later and release the other one now. The iPhone dev Team is working on making the process as easy as possible. The jailbreak is supposedly going to be released tomorrow, or even as early as tonight. The 1.1.3 jailbreak will consist of a series of scripts. All applications will have to run under the mobile section of the iPod which means all third party applications will have to be modified. There no longer is root access to the Springboard. Many developers are modifying their applications for the 1.1.3 firmware. The NES emulator has already been updated to use with the 1.1.3 firmware.

Firmware Version 1.1.3 Has Been Jailbroken!

Firmware version 1.1.3 has just been jailbroken, today on January 19 with read and right access. iPhone firmware version 1.1.3 has still not been unlocked yet. The 1.1.3 Secpack has been found. The jailbreak was done by the iPhone dev Team and Elite Team. But there have been some rumors that they're going to wait until the iPhone SDK comes out in late February to release it. This could be false, though. At this time the jailbreaking procedure is very long. It should be much easier soon. Hopefully the dev Team will release it next weekend. When new information comes out I will update. To watch the video with firmware version 1.1.3 jailbroken in action click here.

Update 1/20 5:30 PM PST: The iPhone dev Team will hold off the release of the 1.1.3 jailbreak until the SDK comes out in late February. That could be a good thing because if Apple requires us to update to a newer version in order to download apps from iTunes, we would still be able to jailbreak and we would still have the ability to download apps through iTunes. They are also working on getting the 1.1.3 iPhone apps to work on 1.1.2. Another downside is that with the 1.1.3 firmware many of the applications will not work. The applications from the Springboard do not have root access anymore which means we wouldn't be able to use Customize. The dev Team is also working on fixing Installer so it will work on 1.1.3. Many applications would have to modified to to work on 1.1.3. The 1.1.3 jailbreak does not look like it will be as great as we expected.

Update 1/22 9:45 PM PST: The iPhone dev Team and Elite Team have recently merged to develop the jailbreak for firmware version 1.1.3. It took about seven members to develop the jailbreak. This jailbreak will not require any hardware modification of any kind. The jailbreak is done by some command line work. Also all apps will go into the mobile section of the iPod's file system  (/var/mobile).

Automatic Downgrade Method Now Available

Now there is an even easier downgrade method. It only takes a minute or two. Just download this file from here and extract it to your desktop. Then open up the folder and click on the file called "down". Press enter once the command prompt comes up. The press enter again once your iPod goes into restore mode. This only works for the iPod Touch and is for the PC only. This does not work on Mac.
To view the steps to downgrading click here.

Downgrading from 1.1.3 to 1.1.1 is now Possible
If you've upgraded your iPhone or iPod Touch to firmware version 1.1.3 and want to downgrade to firmware version 1.1.1, now you can. However, if you have the iPhone and want to downgrade you won't be able to use your iPhone as a phone. Also, when upgrading back to 1.1.3 there is a chance that you might loose the iPhone apps (Mail, Stocks, Notes, Weather, and Maps) if you have the iPod Touch. To view the steps to downgrading click here.

1.1.3 Firmware out for iPod Touch and iPhone

Steve Jobs just released the 1.1.3 firmware update today for the iPod Touch and iPhone. It contains a great amount of new features. You can customize your home screen and view lyrics. Maps, Mail, Weather, Stocks, and Notes are added to the iPod Touch, but you have to pay $19.99 to get those five applications. There is no point in updating, though, because you can already get those things with the Jailbreak. Since firmware version 1.1.3 has not been jailbroken yet, it is recommended that you DO NOT update if you want to keep installing third party apps. As of now you cannot downgrade to firmware version 1.1.1 or 1.1.2 very easily. It is possible to downgrade but it takes a while to do, but it should be much easier very soon.
